Would it make sense to hire someone to watch J while I go exercise? It doubles the cost of that hour.

Answer: Maybe! I think the answer depends on why you’re asking the question. Here’s my thoughts.

For me, it’s really, really important to go to the gym - it gives me energy, strength, and makes me feel good about my body. And I’m not motivated working out at home. So yes - when Cimorene was first born I paid for someone to watch my kids while I went to the gym.

If you’re struggling with the idea of spending that money on yourself, girl: GO BE GOOD TO MAMA. I know when I first had Cimorene, I felt guilty about a lot of things. Spending money on myself was one of those things. But ultimately, you need to take care of yourself.

If you’re struggling with budgeting the extra cost though, there’s some other good options. Some gyms have Mommy and Me classes, and some of them are free because they’re hoping you’ll sign up for a membership. Some gyms have on-site day care that is way cheaper than a babysitter. My seriously amazing cousin has a gym in her garage with a play area set up for my niece, and she’s able to do her workouts at home. There are videos and apps with free workout plans that you can follow if you go down this route, and many don’t require a lot of equipment! If none of that works for you, ask your partner, or relative, or friend if they can take J for an hour or two while you go do your thing.
